Joseph Rutledge Rodgers was first mayor of Colfax, helped build 1st Presbyterian Church-was charter member of Masonic Lodge, came with parents and family settled at Newton in 1864. Had 2 brothers, James E. and Tom who also enlisted in Civil War. Was first Worthy Grand Patron of Eastern Star in Iowa - 1st Master Mason, Oldest at time of his death. Married Dec. 16, 1863, came to Colfax in 1868, lived there continuously since, one of last two of the G. A. R. Mrs. Rodgers died Apr 10, 1909. ~ Colfax paper, Dec 16, 1930
