Harold (Huck) Huckleberry was born Sept. 19, 1924, in Colfax, and died March 4, 2015, at the age of 90, after a very long courageous battle with cancer.
Huck graduated from Newton High School. Married Ardith Skaggs April 12, 1950, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. He worked at Hesson Dairy, spent 18 years at the Newton Daily News and then retired from Maytag. Harold and Ardith owned and operated an ice cream vendor truck for approximately seven years and then owned and operated Huckleberry Ceramics for approximately 30 years.
As snow birds they spent their summers in Newton, and their winters in Clearwater, Fla., making numerous friends in both states.
Harold will be remembered as a quiet yet outspoken, strong willed, honest speaking, intelligent, hardworking man, affectionate uncle and doting husband.
He is survived by his wife Ardith of 65 years; a daughter, Marjorie Ann Kobylasz from a previous marriage; and numerous nieces and nephews and in-laws. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Wilbur. Harold is greatly missed.
A service was Oct. 17 at Woodland Park Shelter (with playground). In lieu of flowers, please shower Ardith with cards at 2851 Jesup Ave., Melbourne, IA 50162, where she has been staying for the summer.
