Life Story of Harvey Cating
Harvey Vern Cating was born September 26, 1882 at Galesburg, Iowa, the child of Cornelius and Jennie Perry Cating, and passed from this life at the Masonic Home, Bettendorf, Iowa July 6, 1966 at the age of 83 years, 9 months and 14 days. He attended school at Galesburg and on October 14, 1903 he was united in marriage with Laura June Jarnagin. To this union one child was born.
Farming until 1928 he later was in trucking and in the 1940’s did carpenter work until he was no longer able to work. After the passing of his wife he made his home with his daughter and family.
He was a member of the Galesburg Christian Church. He joined the Masonic Order February 5, 1917 at Galesburg, transferring his membership to the Monroe Lodge where it remained until his death. He had been at the Masonic Home in Bettendorf since November 1965.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister and his wife on May 7, 1941.
He leaves to mourn his passing his daughter, Carolyn, Mrs. Doyle Kane and two grandchildren, Sally June and Rex Doyle Kane; several nieces and nephews and other relatives and a host of friends.
