Brought Back for Burial
The body of Mrs. Charles R. Noland arrived in Newton, last Saturday, and at two o’clock that afternoon the funeral was held at the Christian church, the service being in charge of the pastor, Rev. Leake. The body was taken to the Slagel cemetery, near Hixson Grove Chapel and there laid to rest besides her father and mother.
Laura Herring was born in Hixson Grove neighborhood in October of 1867. She grew to beautiful and winsome womanhood, and for a number of years her mother and herself lived in Newton, here Laura made many warm friends. A few years ago, she went to Pagosa Springs, Colorado, and there, on the 29th of September 1901, she was married to Charles R. Noland, a well-to-do-widower with one little daughter. Last summer she and her stepdaughter visited in Newton, guests at the C. O. McLain home.
In the early winter, she was taken ill with typhoid fever, and this became complicated with lung trouble; and after being sick eight weeks, she died on Monday, February the sixteenth.
The bereaved husband came with the body, also a niece that had been waiting on her in her illness. Her two sisters in Marshalltown came to attend the funeral.
