Betty Jane Hanawalt, age 87 formerly of Newton, passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Monday, July 17, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. Burial will take place at the Colfax Cemetery. The family will greet friends following the burial at the Colfax United Methodist Church. Memorials may be directed to St. Jude's and condolences may be left for the family at www.coburnfuneralhomes.com

The daughter of Henry and Hilda (Hittle) Merrill, Betty was born on November 23, 1929, in Lorimor, Iowa. On September 16, 1951, she was united in marriage to James Hanawalt. Betty enjoyed collecting tea pots and listening to music. She also enjoyed going to antique stores in search for her tea pots and other glass ware. Those left to honor her memory include her brother, Gene (Ruth) Merrill; five grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, two brothers, Harold and Donald and three sisters, Darlene, Alberta, and Minnie. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Colfax, IA 11 July 2017.
