Karen Johnson, age 77 of Monroe, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 8, 2017, at 1:00 p.m. at the Monroe Presbyterian Church. Visitation will take place on Friday, July 7, 2017, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Monroe Presbyterian Church. Memorials may be directed to the Monroe Presbyterian Church or the Monroe American Legion. The daughter of Jennings Reuben and Olive (Schakel) Palmquist, Karen was born on August 26, 1939, in Des Moines. Karen worked at several area nursing homes as an activities director. She was united in marriage to Ronald Dale Kingery in 1956. After his passing, she met and was married to Delmar Johnson in 2004. Karen was a member of the Monroe Presbyterian Church, served as past president of the Monroe American Legion Auxiliary and was a former member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. She enjoyed doing crafts coffee time with the girls and camping, especially at the State Fair.

Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Delmar; her children, Debra Nichols, Blake (Tamyie) Kingery, Cheryl (Eric) Giers; step children, Delmar (Linda) Johnson, Jr., Ronald Dean (Becky) Johnson, Marla Jo (Marla Rigby) Johnson, and Bradley L. Johnson and Lori Ann (Bob) Pease; 23 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and a sister, Greta (Don) Van Heimert.

Preceding her in death were her parents, her first husband, Ronald in 2003, a son, Randy Kingery, a sister, Evelyn and a brother, Roger. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Monroe, Iowa 5 July 2017.
