Horace Coles Died Sunday At Des Moines
Horace Coles, 69, longtime resident of this area died Sunday, May 10, 1964, at the Veterans Hospital in Des Moines. He had been in failing health for several years but had been able to be about as usual until 3 days before his death.
Mr. Coles was born at Charlottesville, Va., June 1, 1894. He came to the Colfax area in 1907 at the age of 13 years and has made his home here since. He attended school at Seevers, Iowa.
He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Baptist Church.
On August 24, 1943, he was united in marriage to Margaret Gunnell at Colfax.
Mr. Coles is a well known resident having operated a shoe shining parlor here several years ago.
Surviving are his wife, Margaret and son, Horace (Freddie) Coles, Jr.
Funeral services were held Tuesday May 12th at 1 p.m. at the Walters Funeral Home in Colfax. Rev. Marlowe Reinholdt, minister of the First Baptist Church of Colfax, conducted the services.
Mrs. Darrold Hunter and Miss Mable Kaldenberg were singers and Mrs. Lee Schmitt was organist.
The body was sent to Virginia where burial was at Shilo Baptist Church Cemetery at Palmyra, Virginia.
