Mrs. Lovelace Dies at 83 Years
Woman Was Long-time Resident of County; Lived in Newton 30 Years
Mrs. Ruth Ellen Lovelace, 83, 501 North Third avenue East, died Monday at 8:40 p.m. at the Skiff Memorial hospital where she had been a medical patient since Friday. Death was due to the complications of old age.
Mrs. Lovelace had been in poor health for some time, but had been bedfast only a few days before her death.
She and her husband, the late Harmon E. Lovelace, lived for a number of years on a farm at the edge of Kellogg, before moving to Newton approximately 30 years ago.
Mrs. Lovelace, daughter of John W., and Mary E. (Pickering) Vance, was born in Indiana March 24, 1853, and came to Iowa when a young girl.
She was a member of the First Christian church of Newton and the Rebekah lodge.
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Mrs. Elmer Schermerhorn of Leavenworth, Kan.; a son, Herbert Lovelace, at home; an adopted son, Albert Lovelace, whose address is unknown, and a sister, Mrs. Lindia Vance of Des Moines.
Definite funeral arrangements have not been made, pending arrival of the daughter from Leavenworth.
