Former Local Resident Dies
Funeral services for Arthur Orsen Schermerhorn, 76, of California, a resident of Newton for 50 years, were held today at the Church of Our Fathers at Cypress, Calif.
Paramount Mortuary in Paramount, Calif., handled arrangements.
Survivors are his wife, Nina; five sons, Robert, John, Tom, Fred and Wallace; and four daughters, Mrs. Lyndel Graham, Mrs. Roberta Brick, Mrs. Lorra Burkett and Mrs. Nona Yard.
Mr. Schermerhorn was owner of Schermerhorn Brothers Housemovers Co.

Paramont, Calif. – Graveside rites for Nina M. Schermerhorn, 82, and Arthur O. Schermerhorn, 76, of Paramont, Calif., former Newton residents, will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, July 13, at Newton Union Cemetery.
The Rev. Jerry Brown, pastor of the Newton First United Methodist Church, will conduct services.
She died July 6 at Paramont of a heart attack and he died in June 1972.
Reese Funeral Home is handling Newton arrangements.
Survivors are five sons, John, Tom, Fred, Robert and Wallace; four daughters, Lyndel Graham, Roberta Brick, Lorra Burkett and Nina Yard; 34 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren.
Also surviving Mrs. Schermerhorn are a brother, Floyd Wallace, and a sister, Agnes Horstman.
Mrs. Schermerhorn had been a nurse’s aide for 15 years at Downing Hospital in Paramont.
The daughter of Jesse and Linnie Wallace, she was born May 8, 1905 in Peoria, Ill.
The Schermerhorns had resided in Newton for 35 years prior to Moving to California in 1952.

Survived by wife, Nina; sons, Robert, John, Tom, Fred and Wallace; daughters, Mrs. Lyndel Graham, Mrs. Roberta Brick, Mrs. Lorra Burkett and Mrs. Nona Yard; sister, Mrs. Pearl Richmond. Service Wednesday, 12 noon, at Church of Our Fathers.
