Rites Held Tuesday For George Kane
Funeral services were held at First Methodist church here Tuesday afternoon for George Kane, a lifetime resident of Monroe and Fairmont communities. Mr. Kane died early Sunday morning at the age of 58.
George Kane was a son of Mrs. Nancy Kane and the late D. B. Kane. He was born October 16, 1892 near Vandalia. On Sept. 10, 1913, he was united in marriage to Nettie Zaayer of Prairie City and to this union three children were born, Doyle and Raymond of Monroe and Alberta Van Baale of Prairie City.
Survivors besides his widow and children are his mother, two brothers, Perry and Lenord of Bettendorf, five grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, a brother, Herman, and a grandson, Howard Turnquest, Jr.
He was a member of the I.O.O.F., Knights of Pythias and Masonic fraternal orders.
The Rev. George Pennington, former pastor of the local Methodist church, and the Rev. Russell Nye, present pastor, conducted the final rites for Mr. Kane. Interment was at the Monroe cemetery.
