Aged Resident Dies May 30
Olive Bateman, daughter of Mark W. Bateman and Jane Culgrove(sic) Bateman, was called to her “Heavenly Home” May 30, 1952.
She was born at Monroe, Iowa, December 19, 1866. She was of a family of six children. Those preceding her in death were her father and mother; sister, Addie Jarnagin; brothers, James E. and Fred Eldred; leaving Marge Ible and Stella B. Hough to mourn the loss of a kind and loving sister.
She was a graduate of Monroe public schools and Greeley University of Colorado. She taught in Monroe several years. At the age of 26 she went to Grand Junction, Colo., and taught in the Lowell School until she was married to David R. Crosby in 1902. After his death she resumed teaching and was principal in one of the schools until retirement.
She loved children and the beauties of nature. Her “hobby” was roses and beautifying the grounds at schools, wasted and neglected places, and she delighted to travel. Her first thought was not of self, but helping others, and she was generous.
She had been a member of the Monroe Methodist church at the time of her passing was a member of the Methodist church at Grand Junction, Colo.
She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, P.E.O., D.A.R., Garden Club, Sunshine Club and Order of Beauceant.
She had been in failing health for some time, and everything was done for her comfort.
To mourn her passing are her two sisters, nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends here and elsewhere.
Funeral services were conducted from the Crumpacker Funeral Home by the Rev. Donald Brong Sunday afternoon, June 1st at 2:30 p.m. and the internment will be made in the cemetery at Grand Junction, Colo.
