Melvin (Wick) Wicker, age 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Sunday, May 28th, 2017. He was born the son of Murray and Fern Wicker on June 9th, 1932 in rural Marion County, Iowa.

Upon graduation from Prairie City in 1951, Wick was drafted into the US Army and was stationed at Ft. Richardson, Alaska during the Korean conflict. After completing his military service, his sister Ines introduced him to her coworker at the telephone company, Marilyn Barr. Wick and Marilyn were married December 7th, 1957. He co-owned the Philips station in Prairie City before it was purchased by the CO-OP. He continued to manage the CO-OP Station until his retirement in 1993.

Wick was a member of the Walnut Creek Fire Department, avid outdoorsmen, and lover of dogs. He was a past master of Preston Masonic Lodge and a 50-year member.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Marilyn; son Tom (Jeri) Wicker of Prairie City; granddaughters Renee' (Robin) Sol of Overland Park, Kansas and Sarah (Ben) Sievers of Taos, New Mexico; and the three Musketeers that lovingly referred to him as Great Wicker; Jada Sol, Thomas Sievers, and Kaia Sol. He leaves behind nieces, nephews and many good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Darlene Ellison and Ines Timboe.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 2, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Coburn Funeral Home. Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 1, 2017, from 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. The family will greet friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. There will be a Masonic Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Preston Masonic Lodge or Prairie City Ambulance.
