Old Pioneer Passes Away
George W. Blanford had Lived In Jasper County Fifty Years
George W. Blanford died at his home a short distance east of Colfax Wednesday, January 3, aged 80 years, 11 months and 24 days. The funeral took place Friday afternoon, service being conducted at the house by Rev. E. G. Williams, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of Colfax. A quartet from the choir of the church sang. Interment was in the Oak Hill cemetery.
The deceased was born on the 27th of January, 1836, at Louisville, Kentucky, came to Iowa in 1856, and for fifty years had lived on the farm where he died. His passing removed from this community one of the real pioneers. He was a good citizen and enjoyed the friendship and confidence of all who knew him.
He was married to Mary E. Slaughter in 1863 to which union eight children were born, most of them with the bereaved wife are living and mourn the loss of a kind husband and loving father. The children are: Dora N., Wm. T., Consuela, Frank S., J. H., Katherine B., George, and Charles A.
