Mrs. C. L. Bish Died This Morning at 1
Mrs. Carl L. Bish a prominent Newton business woman, died this morning at 1 o’clock, at her home, 604 North Third avenue East. She had been bedfast for the last 12 weeks and in poor health for some time, her death resulting from complication of diseases and a second operation which she sustained last April. She was 40 years of age.
Estella E. Wright was born Sept. 1, 1886 in Monroe, Ia., and was adopted when she was four weeks old by Mr. and Mrs. H. K. Wright, then of Reasnor, Ia. When she was 12 years of age she moved to Newton with her parents where she had lived ever since. She attended the Newton schools.
She was married July 4, 1906 to Carl Bish, at the home of her parents in Newton. To this union was born one daughter, Beatrice and a son, who died in infancy.
Mrs. Bish had been a member of the United Presbyterian church since she was 19 years old, and was also a member of the Daughters of the Veterans. She spent almost 15 years of her life in the millinery business and during this time was employed by Mrs. C. M. Cowgill, formerly in the millinery business in newton. For the last seven years she had been in business for herself, on the east side of the square for five years, and for the last two years had been manager and owner of the Bish Gift and Millinery shop, located in the Panghorn building.
Mrs. Bish made friends of her customers. Throughout all her struggles in a business way she kept her cheerful disposition, the least happy incident pleasing her. Patrons who frequented her shop were always given courteous treatment and her ever ready smile.
She is survived by her husband, Carl Bish, one daughter, Beatrice, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. K. Wright of Newton, one brother Arthur Wright of Mountain Grove, Mo., and Miss Esther Sanderson, who has made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Bish for a number of years.
Funeral arrangements have not been completed.
