Solomon Bigney Dies in Des Moines Sat.
Funeral Services For Former Resident Held Here Monday
Solomon Bigney, a former resident of Colfax, passed away Saturday at the hospital in Des Moines following an illness of some time.
Mr. Bigney was a resident of Colfax for many years, going to Des Moines in 1927 after the death of his wife. He was a miner by trade and spent most of his active life in that work.
Mr. Bigney was born in Nova Scotia, February 12, 1851, and passed away in Des Moines, December 15, 1934, aged 83 years.
Five children remain to mourn the loss of their father, the mother and three children having preceded him in death. They are John Bigney of Tacoma, Wash.; William of Des Moines; Tom of Newton; Mrs. Tom Miller and Mrs. Jane Manuel of Des Moines.
Funeral services were conducted Monday afternoon from the Colfax Methodist church with Rev. Biel, pastor of the Des Moines Evangelical Lutheran church in charge, assisted by Rev. L. C. McDonald. Burial was made in the Colfax cemetery.
Music was furnished by Mrs. Alfred Tobias, Mrs. Ellis Shissler, Gomer Williams and Chester Binkerd, with Mrs. Cleo Wall accompanist.
Pall bearers were Emory Pflaum, Tom Hughes, Oliver Pflaum, Henry Nicodemus, John Pearson and W. S. Cutter.
