Beverly’s funeral service will be 10 a.m., Friday, May 26th at the First Christian Church, 314 E. 2nd St. N. in Newton.

The family will greet friends from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, May 25th at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton.

Burial will be at Restland Cemetery in Baxter.

Memorials in Beverly’s name (please make checks payable to Keith Smith) may be left at the funeral home or at the church on the morning of the service. Memorials may also be mailed to the Wallace Family Funeral Home, please add, Attn: Smith Family on the envelope.

Beverly Ann Birkenholtz Smith, the daughter of Everett A. and Nadine Damman Birkenholtz was born on February 11, 1946 in Newton, Iowa. She was a graduate of Newton High School in 1964.

On March 20, 1965, Beverly was united in marriage with William Keith Smith in Newton. They were blessed with two sons, Scott and Randy. Beverly did baby sitting for many years. She had worked at the Canteen at the Maytag Company; she also made pies at the Maid Rite, worked at Casey’s east in the kitchen and at the Hy-Vee bakery. Beverly was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She couldn’t wait to see her children, grandchildren and grandpuppies. Beverly was a member of the First Christian Church in Newton. She enjoyed cooking for her family. Beverly took up quilting, organ lessons and many other small hobbies. She enjoyed helping the children at the First Christian Church with craft time during Vacation Bible School. Beverly also liked clogging, square dancing and round dancing. She lived in Newton for 50 years prior to moving to Baxter six years ago.

Beverly died on Sunday, May 21, 2017 surrounded by the love of her family at the Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines. She was 71. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents and grandson, Brenton Smith.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Keith of Baxter; sons, Scott (Barb) Smith of Des Moines and Randy (Stacie) Smith of Newton; four grandchildren, Cameron Smith of Newton, Brandon Smith of Ankeny, Amber Smith of Des Moines and Alexis Smith of Newton; her brother, Larry (Jone) Birkenholtz of Newton; her sister, Linda (Carl) Roose of Pleasant Hill; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. ~ The Wallace Family Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 21 May 2017.
