Carter – Elizabeth Lacey was born March 4, 1826, in Carter County, Tennessee. She was married to Gibson Carter in the year 1845, and in 1848 they moved to St. Paul, Minnesota. Mr. Carter died about 40 years ago after a lingering sickness of 14 years. Two children were born to them, Mary, who died in infancy, and George, who was supposed to have been killed in a mine out West. She made her way dressmaking in St. Paul until a few years ago, and since that time she has lived with her relatives here. She leaves one brother I. T. Lacey of this place. She died at the home of her nephew Mr. W. H. Lacey, November 9, 1903, after a sickness of eight weeks with pneumonia and typhoid fever. She was ready and willing to die, her last words being, “I can die in peace, my soul is at peace with God.” The funeral was held at the house Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock. Rev. J. P. Morley conducting the services. The choir was composed of Misses Margaret Darling and Adel Snyder and Messrs. Grant and Blaine Walker. The pallbearers were Wm. Boyd, Samuel Hedrick, Wm. Hilker, Thos. Trunnell, Thos. Trynan, and Wm. Walker. Interment was at Sams cemetery, northeast of Valeria.
