Obituary of M. W. Chandler
The following is the obituary of Morgan Whitfield Chandler, who died Dec. 26, 1933, at Long Beach, California, and was buried in the cemetery at Monroe, Iowa, Monday, Jan. 1, 1934.
Morgan Whitfield Chandler was born in Knox county, Ohio, July 6, 1849. He came to Iowa with his parents, Alfred and Sarah Chandler in 1863. He was married to Minerva Jane McArtor in 1872. To this union was born 7 children.
His wife and three daughters, Mrs. O. M. Wilson, Mrs. Roy Hawthorne and little Effie Mae, preceded him in death. Two daughters, Mrs. C. H. Smith of Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Fred Fillmer of Delta and two sons, Chas. E. Chandler of Springfield, Oregon and W. S. Chandler of Delta; 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren survive him.
He passed away very suddenly at the Compton Hotel at Long Beach, Calif., on Dec. 26, 1933.
Mr. Chandler was engaged in the general merchandise and banking business at Delta, Ia., for many years, where he still has a host of friends who hold his memory in high esteem.
He has spent the last 20 years in Colorado Springs and Long Beach, Calif.
His body was brought to Monroe, Iowa, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Smith on Jan. 1, 1934. After a short service at the grave, his body was laid to rest beside his wife in the Monroe Cemetery.
Those attending the burial from out of town were Mrs. and Mrs. Fred Felmer, Mr. and Mrs. W. S. Chandler, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Wharton and son Roger Dean of Delta, Ia.; Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Smith of Long Beach, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Blakeslee and Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Neff of Oskaloosa, Ia., besides a host of friends at Monroe.
