Funeral services for Franklin Alexander Dixon III, 17, of 720 S. 3rd Ave. E., a resident of Newton since June 1981, were held today at the Congregational United Church of Christ.
The Rev. David Raymond, pastor of the church, conducted services. Burial was in the Newton Union Cemetery.
Visitation with the family was held Sunday at the Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.
He died Friday at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.
Memorial contributions to a fund in Mr. Dixon’s name may be left at the funeral home.
Survivors are his mother and step-father, Deanna Rae and William K. Weter of Newton; his father, Frank A. Dixon Jr. of San Jose, Calif.; grandparents, Mrs. Marie Dixon of Los Gatos, Calif., Warren and Erma Westercamp of San Jose, and Glenn and Marge Tuttle of San Jose; and his step-grandmother, Mrs. Catherine Weter of Newton.
Also surviving are his great grandparents, Mrs. Pearl Lane of Marathon, Mrs. Buelah Tuttle of San Jose, Calif., and John and Elsie Westercamp of Keosauqua; a brother, Landon S. of Newton; and a sister, Alisa D. of Newton.
He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Frank A. Dixon Sr., and a step-grandfather, Okie Weter.
Mr. Dixon, who attended Newton Community High School as a senior, had been on the school yearbook staff. He had participated in baseball in his sophomore year and track in his junior and senior years.
He was born at Fort Ord, Calif., Feb. 16, 1968 and was graduated from Newton Community High School.

Thursday’s injuries fatal to Newton youth
Franklin Dixon, 17, of Newton, died Friday at the Mercy Hospital Medical Center, Des Moines, after sustaining injuries in a fall at a haunted house in Kellogg.
Dixon was injured in a fall down about 10 stairs at the Kellogg Community Men’s Club haunted house Thursday night. A hospital spokesman said Dixon died of severe head injuries.
Dixon and a friend were on their way to the swinging stairs attraction when they fell. Officials said Dixon landed head-first on a concrete floor at the foot of the stairs. His friend was not hurt.
The Kellogg Ambulance Crew responded within minutes, according to a spokesman, and Dixon was taken to Skiff Memorial Hospital before being transferred to Mercy Hospital.
Dixon was a recent graduate of Newton Community High School.
