Fred Rohrdanz Dies at Reasnor
Life-long Resident of Jasper County Dies at 77 Years
Fred Rohrdanz, 77, life-long resident of Jasper county, died Sunday, April 12, 1936, at his home three miles east of Reasnor, where he had lived for the last 72 years.
Mr. Rohrdanz was taken ill with influenza Wednesday, and pneumonia developed, resulting in his death.
Funeral services will be conducted from the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Elk Creek township Wednesday at 2:00 by the pastor, the Rev. W. C. Weber, assisted by the Rev. R. E. Hodgson of Reasnor. The body will be at the home until time for the services.
Mr. Rohrdanz, son of John J. and Mary (Price) Rohrdanz, was born in Elk Creek township, Jasper county, Feb. 17, 1859. His parents, early residents of this county, were both natives of Prussia and came to Jasper county from New York state in 1844.
The father purchased a 40-acre tract of land in Elk Creek township at $1.25 per acre, and here the son, Fred, was born.
He grew to manhood in this vicinity and was united in marriage to Emma Andrews, native of Elk Creek township, on March 19, 1890. Eight children were born to this union, but only one survives in addition to the wife. Mr. Rohrdanz was a member of the Woodmen of the World lodge.
Surviving relatives are his wife; one daughter, Mrs. Lettie Ritter, who lives at home, and three grandchildren, Dorothy, Howard and Lucille Ritter.
