LARRY L. RATLIFF
1937 - 2016

Larry Lee Ratliff, 79, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Saturday June 11, 2016 at his home in Raymore, MO. A celebration of life will be held at 1:30 pm on Friday June 24th at the Wesley Covenant Chapel / United Methodist Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe Avenue, Leawood, KS. A Graveside Memorial Service with Military Honors will be held at 2pm Saturday, June 25th at Maple Hills Cemetery, 2100 E. Shepherd Avenue in Kirksville, MO.

Larry was born on January 31st, 1937, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Roland and Opal (Harris) Ratliff. He graduated from Kirksville High School in 1956. Upon graduation, he went on to courageously serve his country, first in the National Guard and then in the US Air Force. Larry worked for General Motors, retiring as a Supervisor with over 30 years of committed service. Larry was a passionate collector and lover of all things Coca-Cola, especially an ice cold bottle. He had a love of antiques, trains, and exhibited a boyish charm while on the hunt for many unique and special items. His humor was second-to-none and he was always excited to share a funny story (even if he'd shared it a thousand times before). You always parted ways with a smile after having talked to him. He worked, played, and loved hard, and was always there with an open door, an ear, a shoulder, a steak, a burger, a hand to help, and a heart full of love. The most important thing in Larry's world was family, of which he had many roots and branches, but the most precious love in his life was his wife of 20 years, Sondra. They were the best of friends, soul mates, dance partners, and the love of each other's lives.

Larry was met at the gates of Heaven by his parents, and his twin brother, Garry Ratliff.

He is survived by his wife Sondra; daughters, Laurie Simko (Jim), and Lynda Markway (Keith); stepsons Michael Rater, Jeff Rater (Tommie), and Ken Rater (Cindy); stepdaughters Kelli Wright, and Jami Martin (Todd); sisters Nancy Taylor, Karen Moul (Jim), Anita Slaughter, and Jorga Hartwell (Russ); 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family or a charity of your choice . Arrangements: Cullen Funeral Home, Raymore, MO. 816.322.5278 Cullen Funeral Home, Inc ~ The Kansas City Star, Kansas City, MO 16 June 2016.
