She was born on December 18, 1924 in Reasoner, IA to Grace (Tool) and Henry Peery. Edith married Arthur W. Slegh on February 21, 1949. They were blessed with two children a daughter Carol and a son Larry.

Edith started school in 1930 in a little white building called Rose Hill in Elk Creek Township just about one half mile from the Jasper Marion County line. Her dad had a Model A car and would sometimes take her to school or to her Uncle's house and she would walk with her cousins to school. After graduating from Newton high school Edith attended classes at Simpson College in Indianola and passed the Training Course. She then returned to the country school, Rose Hill, to teach. She had seven students in her class and four were children she had gone to school with. Edith only taught for a couple years but enjoyed teaching children just as her grandma Mary and her mother did.

In 1966 the family moved from the farm in Kellogg to Prairie City where Edith was a homemaker. For several years, Edith and Arthur were custodians at the United Methodist Church in Prairie City; where they were members. Edith was very active in the church until 2003 when she moved to Ramsey Village. Edith enjoyed being a Sunday school teacher, singing in the church choir and having fellowship with the Women's Circle. She also sang with the Jasper County Choir that performed around the local community.

Edith enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Edith would go on bicycle trips with Carol to Minnesota and Wisconsin. She was involved in Boy Scouts with Larry. She enjoyed gardening and canning. Edith liked to travel. The last family vacation she went on was to Branson, MO with her daughter, son and his wife. They went on an excursion, Ride the Ducks, where Edith got to steer the boat on Table Rock, which she immensely enjoyed. Edith especially liked telling stories about her brothers Donald and Kenneth and they loved telling stories about her and life on the farm. They would spend hours talking and laughing recalling the "good ole days".

Edith moved to Ramsey Village in 2003 where she has been one of the longest residents. She enjoyed playing bingo, going to church services and participating in the various activities there. Edith enjoyed singing so much that she would sit in the lobby charming the other residents.

Edith will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She is survived by her daughter Carol Slegh, son Larry and his wife Wendy Slegh, brother Donald and his wife Pearl Peery, sister-in-law Bertine Slegh, nephew Jerry (Nancy) Slegh and niece Patti Peery.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother Kenneth, brother-in-law Robert Slegh and recently her nephew Darrell Peery. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Prairie City, Iowa 3 Feb 2017.
