Nellie G. Nearmyer, 99, of Newton, died of heart failure Tuesday, April 10, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. James Black, pastor of the Newton Four Square Church, officiating. Burial will be at Newton Memorial Park Cemetery in Newton.
Friends may call after 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home where family will receive friends from 10 a.m. until time of the service. Memorials will be accepted to the donor’s choice and may be left at the funeral home.
The daughter of Frank and Myrtle Greenlief Clymer, she was born July 16, 1901, in rural Colfax and graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1919. She married Orville M. Nearmyer on Jan. 10, 1922, in Newton.
Mrs. Nearmyer taught country school prior to her marriage and was a homemaker and farmer’s wife. She lived in rural Colfax, moved to rural Newton in the early 1940’s and then moved into Newton in 1966. She was a member of the Abigail Adams Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Jasper County Farm Bureau and the L. L. Club of Farm Bureau.
Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Lawrence and Beverly, and Loren and Louise, all of Newton; two daughters and sons-in-law, Ardelle and Raymond Morgan of Bondurant and Veralea and Richard Buchanan of Newton; 12 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers and two sisters. ~ The Newton Daily News, April 11, 2001.
