Samuel Buckingham, age 91 of Prairie City, passed away on Friday, January 6, 2017 at Courtyard Estates in Pleasant Hill. Funeral services will be held on at Monday, January 9, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the Prairie City Church of The Brethren, with burial following at Griffis Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Sunday, January 8, 2017, from 2:00 - 4:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. Memorials can be made to the Prairie City Church of the Brethren. Sam was born October 12, 1925 to parents, Irvin Amos Buckingham and Elsie (Dean) Webb, in Valley Junction. The family lived in Colorado during Sam's younger years, they moved back to Prairie City when he was eleven years old. He graduated from Prairie City High School. Sam was married to Francisse Trombley on March 9, 1946. They celebrated their 70th anniversary in 2016. He farmed around the Prairie City area and was a foreman at Maytag. He loved antique tractors, especially A.C. and Case. He owned a steel-wheeled Wallace tractor. He was member of the Red Rock Threshers group. He had an extensive miniature tractor collection and cars. He was a member and life-term deacon of the Prairie City Church of the Brethren, and also served on the farm committee. Sam & Francisse hosted a Wednesday night Bible study for many years. He loved to sing around the piano.

Sam was preceded in death by his parents, daughters, Barbara and Claudia, brothers, Warren, David, and Bill, and by sisters Edna and Alta Marie, and by brothers-in-law, Fred, Charlie, Ray, George, and sisters-in-law, Blanche, Vesta, Evelyn, Mary and Elda. Sam is survived by Francisse, daughters Yvonne (Ron) Waddle, and Cinda (Marv) Schut, nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Betty Jo Buckingham and Sarah Ayers. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Prairie City, Iowa Fri 6 Jan 2017.
