Mrs. Kathryn Staker, 77, died Sunday morning, August 21st, at 11:30 a. m. at the Skiff hospital in Newton where she had been receiving treatment the past several weeks.

Kathryn MacDonald Crawford, daughter of Elizabeth and David Crawford was born March 11, 1883 at Angus, Iowa. She moved to the Colfax vicinity when very young and has lived the remainder of her life in the the mining area near Colfax and since 1941 has made her home in this city. She was united in marriage to Ed Staker, in 1915, at Newton, Iowa. Mr. Staker preceded her in death July 6, 1944.

Though Mrs. Staker had no children of her own, she raised three of her nieces, Mrs. Augusta Harp of Detroit, Mich., Mrs. Thelma Harris of Chicago, Ill, and Mrs. Betty Nebeker of Milwaukee, Wisc.; also two grand nieces, Mrs. Gladys Butts of Colfax and Mrs. Betty Gleason, the latter who preceded her in death. Mrs. Staker also assisted in the care of her grand nephews, Howard and Tommy Wearmouth and Richard Butts until her health failed.

Left to mourn her passing in addition to the family she raised, are two sisters, Mrs. Belle Spence of Des Moines and Mrs. Elizabeth Lippincott of Colfax.

Her parents, two brothers and 4 sisters preceded her in death.

Funeral services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. from the Walters Funeral Home in Colfax with Rev. E. Harold Jackson of the Methodist Church officiating.

Bearers were Vern Appleton, Robert Hagge, Claire Johnson, Wayne Retchenback, John Robson and ?.

Burial was in the Colfax Cemetery.
