Michael "Mick" Reavis, age 67, of Newton and formerly of Grinnell, died on Thursday, November 24, 2016, in Newton.

A celebration of his life will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 28, 2016, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. Tom Lloyd officiating. Interment with military rites will be at Lower Blue Point Cemetery southeast of Grinnell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Michael "Mick" Reavis Memorial Fund, mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.

Michael Lee Reavis was born the son of Maurice Lee Reavis and Mary Marie (Reed) Reavis on Monday, August 15, 1949, in Grinnell, Iowa. He was raised in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1967.

Mick enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on July 2, 1968, and served two tours in the Vietnam War as an Anti-Tank Assaultman and later a marksmanship instructor for the Weapons Training Battalion, Marine Corps Combat Development Command in Quantico, Virginia. He was honorably discharged on February 6, 1972, in Quantico, Virginia. On November 24, 1973, he was united in marriage to Regina Wallace in Lynnville. They were blessed with a son, Michael Reavis. Their marriage later ended in divorce. Mick lived most of his life in Grinnell was employed with several Grinnell area businesses, which included: Donaldson's, Stadium's Unlimited and DeKalb.

Mick will be remembered for being a comedian, prankster, and a great story-teller. He never knew a stranger and was always there to lend a hand to those in need.

Mick is survived by his son, Michael (Lisa) Reavis of Newton; siblings, Peggy Young of Salt Lake City, Utah, Paula "Cookie" (Bill) Ferguson of Des Moines, Iowa, and David (Deirdre) Reavis of Bellevue, Nebraska; and his step-daughter, Heidi (Randy) Kirkpatrick of Newton.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Frances Creamer. ~ Smith Funeral Home, Grinnell, Iowa 24 Nov 2016.
