Erma Margaret Nicholson, 96, of Heritage Manor Care Center, died Saturday, Dec. 17, at the center of heart failure.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Wallace-Pence Funeral Home.

The Rev. William Calhoun, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, will conduct services.

Burial will be in Newton Union Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. today and visitation with the family will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials to the First Presbyterian Church or Heritage Manor activity fund may be left at the funeral home.

Survivors are a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Joyce Nicholson of Newton; two granddaughters, and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Roy, in 1947, three brothers, Bernard, Verne and Marvin Meredith, and a sister, Reva Meredith in 1989.

Mrs. Nicholson was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Gates Church Circle and a charter member of the Clio Club.

Mrs. Nicholson had been employed at Nollen Drug and Davidson Plumbing and Heating in Newton and later was associated with her husband for 35 years in Nicholson Painting and Wallpaper Store. After his death in 1947 she was associated in the store with her son, Jack. She sold the store in 1958. She also had been employed at Jasper Coal and the Newton Mall gift shop.

The daughter of William J. and Agnes Loveridge Meredith, she was born Feb. 6, 1898 in Lynnville and was a member of the 1916 class at Newton Community High School.

She was married to Roy Dix Nicholson Oct. 13, 1921 in the Presbyterian Church parsonage, Newton. ~ The Newton Daily News, December 1994.
