Mrs. Sarah Welty died at the home of her son, W. H. Welty of Nevada, Mo., last Thursday. She was the grandmother of Mrs. Josh Bewyer, of this city, and for many years made her home east of town with her brother, the late Isaac Swihart. The remains arrived in Newton this afternoon and the funeral will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bewyer. Obituary of Mrs. Sarah Welty

Mrs. Sarah Welty died at the home of her son, W. H. H. Welty, at Nevada, Missouri June 1, 1905, aged 89 years, 5 months and 15 days. The remains were brought to this city, accompanied by her son and the funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock at the home of her granddaughter, Mrs. Josh Bewyer, Rev. J. W. Hackley officiating. The interment was made in Newton Cemetery beside her husband.

Sarah Swihart was born at Canal Dover, Ohio, December 17, 1815. She came to Jasper County, Iowa in the spring of 1867, and resided on a farm four and a half miles northeast of this city until the death of her husband, John Welty in February, 1874. Since that time she has made her home with her son, W. H. H. Welty, in Jasper and Adair counties, Iowa, and at Nevada, Mo., where the death occurred.

She was reared a German Lutheran, but after marriage united with the Methodist Church, of which she remained a member until death.

She leaves one brother, Frederick Swihart, of Jasper, Mo., and three children, Mrs. Lucinda Sidlinger of Hutchinson, Kansas, Isaac Welty, of Lake Charles, LA., and W. H. H. Welty, of Nevada, Mo.; also a number of great grand children and one great-great grandson, Robt. Bewyer. ~ The Newton (IA) Journal, 7 June, 1905.
