Benjamin Parker was born near Rutland, Vermont, Dec. 17, 1816. Was married to Miss Nancy Persons in 1841. To this union were born three children, Mrs. John Downs of Wichita, Kansas, and twins, Mrs. John W. Watson of this city, and J. F., who died in infancy. In 1855 Mr. Parker with his family came to Davenport, Iowa. A year later they moved to Durant, Iowa, and later in the year 1878, they came to this city, where Mr. Parker resided till his death, July 27, 1905.

Mr. Parker was an honest upright man and had the respect of his many friends. His wife was called to her rest three years ago. For several years before her death, the father and mother made their home with their daughter, Mrs. J. W. Watson, and though for three years, the father had been a helpless invalid, his daughter and family have ministered to his every want and cared for him so tenderly and devotedly.

The funeral was held at the residence this afternoon at three o’clock. Rev. E. F. Leake, assisted by Rev. G. L. Smith officiating. The music was provided by Mrs. Will Reeves, Miss Edna Stamper, Messrs. George Hall and Henry Ogg. ~ The Newton Daily News, Saturday, July 29, 1905, Page 1, Column 6
