Shankland Rites Held Saturday
Funeral services for Vincent C. Shankland, 75 year old Newton resident, who died Mar. 18, 1942, following an illness of five months, were held at the First Methodist church of Newton, Saturday, Mar. 21, with the Dr. Loren M. Edwards in charge.
Mrs. Maurice Rodgers, accompanied by Miss Lois Hundling, sang “Going Home,” and “The Old Rugged Cross.”
Robert Gray, Richard Gray, Jack Stickney, Francis Geisler, Clifford Geisler, and William Geisler, served as pallbearers. Interment was in the Monroe cemetery.
Mr. Shankland was born Sept. 7, 1872, on a farm near Fairmount, and was married to Ida Belle Kinart Jan. 1, 1890. To this union seven children were born.
The Shanklands moved to Newton 31 years ago and had resided in Newton since that time. Mr. Shankland was employed by the city until ill health forced him to resign.
Immediate relatives surviving are six children, Mrs. Walter Geisler of Nevada, Ia.; Mrs. Charles K. Stickney, Newton; Mrs. Carl Gray, Des Moines; Vern Shankland, Greenwood, Wis.; Mrs. Rex Lint, Newton, and Mrs. John Lundeen of Clovis, Cal.; a brother, Judge Frank Shankland of Des Moines and a sister, Mrs. Claude Loar of Des Moines. There are also twenty-two grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
