Final Rites for Mrs. Hammer Tuesday
Funeral services for Mrs. Ed. Hammer, 54, of near Kellogg who died Saturday, Mar. 14, at the Skiff Memorial hospital where she had been a patient for two weeks, were held at the Morgan Funeral home Tuesday, Mar. 17, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Nelson Murdoch in charge of the rites.
Music was furnished by Mrs. David Welle, Mrs. Isaac Welle, James VanBaren and Emmett Van Dalen, who sang, “Rock of Ages”, “What a Friend We have in Jesus”, and “In The Garden”, accompanied at the piano by Mrs. Ray Livingston.
Those serving on the flower committee were: Mr. and Mrs. Warren Bates and Mr. and Mrs. August Lafrenz.
Pallbearers were: Forrest Houston, Cleo Houston, Lawrence Peters, Robert Baum, Russell Peterson, and Jack Swearingen. Interment was made in the Hewitt cemetery.
Mrs. Hammer, the former Myrtle Swearingen, was born near Galesburg, Mar. 17, 1888, and had spent all her life in Jasper county. She was united in marriage Dec. 24, 1907 to Ed. Hammer, who survives her.
Other immediate surviving relatives are three daughters: Jean and Nita Hammer, and Mrs. Nina Machin, who reside at home, and two grandchildren: Ellen and Richard Machin.
