Funeral Rites Held Monday For Colfax woman

Colfax, IA – Mrs. Belle Helfenstein, 89, died here last Friday morning at the home of her daughter, Anna Helfenstein, here, following a two-week illness.
Short funeral rites were held at the home Monday morning and later services were held at the LeGrand, Ia., Christian church, with burial in the family lot of a cemetery at LeGrand.
She is survived by two daughters, Anna of Colfax and Mrs. Eshyle H. O’Connel of Miles City, Mont., and two sons, Alva E. Helfenstein of Farrar and Roy C., of Mason City.
Mrs. Helfenstein was the widow of David Winshall Helfenstein. Born Dec. 9, 1852 at Finleyville, Pa., near Pittsburgh, she came to Iowa as a child. She was married Apr. 18, 1877, at Fairfield, Ia., and five children were born to the couple. Her husband preceded her in death and a son, Perry, died at the age of 3 years.
She was a member of the Christian church and The Newton Daily News' Three-Quarter Century club.
