Mina Faye Clark, 97, of Monroe, died Friday, Dec. 19, 2003 at Hospice Comfort House in Pella. Memorial services will be held Sunday, Jan. 4, at 2 p.m., at the Monroe Community of Christ Church and graveside services will be held Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at 2 p.m., at the Ackland/Dunreath Iowa Cemetery in Marion County with Elder Stephen A. Friedman officiating.

Faye was born on Jan. 23, 1906, near Otley, the daughter of Albert Lieuwes and Jane Breen Dykstra. She attended the rural Valley School until her family moved near Monroe in Jasper County at which time she continued her education at the Monroe school graduating valedictorian in 1923.

She attended the State University of Iowa for two years obtaining a teacher's certificate and taught four years in rural Marion and Jasper County schools. She then continued her education at Iowa State University where she received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics and Household Equipment and was chosen a member of the Phi Kappa Phi scholastic honorary. She worked as a clerk in the Knoxville ASCS office from 1938 to 1943.

For over the next 60 years, Faye resided in Marion County as a homemaker and mother. She married Joseph Upright Clark on Aug. 1, 1943 at her parents' home. To this union one daughter, Jane, was born. She also became the beloved adoptive mother to Joe's four young children, David, Daisy, Paul and Milo, whose mother, Bernice Mohler Clark, had died in 1942. The couple lived north of Dunreath before moving to a farm south of Monroe.

She was a member of the Monroe Community of Christ Church.
