Mike W. “Mushy” McDaniels, 67, of Newton, died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2016. Services will be at a later date.
Wallace Family Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton are handling the service arrangements.

Additional information from the family:
Michael William McDaniels was born August 29, 1949 in Newton, the son of Max “Shorty” and Virginia Irene Atwood McDaniels. Mike was educated in the Newton Schools. Mike married Cathy L. Henning on June 16, 1969 and they later divorced. To this union three children were born: Tiffany Lynn McDaniels Vande Krol, Michael James McDaniels and Travis Max McDaniels. He also had a daughter, Kelsi Anne McDaniels by a later relationship, who he raised on his own.
He is also survived by a half-brother Carl McGee and half-sisters Kay Harlow and Mrs. Robert (Carol) Boyer, all of Newton, and Mrs. LeRoy (Ann) Cloyd of Ottumwa.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, a half-brother, Theodore Sutton and half-sister, Phyllis Seals.
Mike loved to go fishing and it was during a fishing trip on the Skunk River south of Metz that he fell into the river and his body was discovered a few days later. He was last seen on Sunday evening, September 11 and his body was recovered on Thursday, September 15, 2016.
