October 20, 1935 - October 11, 2016

Bruce McWilliams, age 80, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2016, at his home in Altoona. Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 14, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at First Reformed Church in Prairie City with burial to follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Thursday, October 13, 2016 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Prairie City. Memorials may be directed to First Reformed Church or St. Croix Hospice. Bruce was born on October 20, 1935, in Des Moines, Iowa to Jearl and Dorothy McWilliams. He attended Lincoln High School before joining the Marines Corps, during the Korean War. He was stationed in Japan at the base of Mt. Fuji. After his honorable discharge, Bruce began his life-long career as a self-employed painter.

On November 27, 1959, Bruce was united in marriage to Vernice Quick. To this union, two children were born; Brenda Van Wyk and Brent. Vernice passed away June of 1989. After her passing, Bruce met and married Sheryl (Wing) Redman on May 16, 1992.

During his younger years, Bruce loved racing cars at the tracks around central Iowa. He enjoyed being with family, boating, camping, riding motorcycles, bicycles, watching NASCAR races and pulling for his beloved Raiders football team.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Sheryl; children, Brenda (Jerry) Van Wyk, Brent (Bonnie) McWilliams; step children, Machelle (Brian) Jameson, Rob (Heather) Redman and Harry (Michelle) Redman; 13 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and three brothers, Tim McWilliams, Jim McWilliams and Ed McWilliams.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, a sister and three brothers. ~ The Coburn Funeral Home, Colfax, Iowa 11 Oct 2016.
