Clipper, March 1 - Joseph Thomas, employed as a digger at number six of the Colfax Consolidated Coal Company’s mines was instantly killed at noon last Tuesday by being caught between a coal car he was switching in to load and a prop, the car having become derailed in bringing down. A gash over the man’s left eye was deep enough to have proven fatal but he had other equally serious injuries. Squire Allfree came from Newton and officiated as coroner in place of Mr. Jacobs who is ill. The jury rendered a verdict of accidental death and exonerated the coal company from any blame.
