September 30, 1938 - October 4, 2016

Elaine Ann (Franzmeier) Vander Broek, daughter of Ewald and Anna (Voss) Franzmeier was born on September 30, 1938. She passed away at the age of 78, on October 4, 2016, at Newton Health Care Center in Newton. Elaine grew up on the family farm in rural Storm Lake, Iowa. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. She graduated from Trusdale High School in 1957. Elaine was united in marriage on June 16, 1957, at the Zion Lutheran Church to Franklin G. Vander Broek. This union was blessed with two children; Linda and Frank.

Frank and Elaine made their home both in Orange City and Sioux Rapids, Iowa before moving to Monroe in 1970. Elaine was an accomplished seamstress, sewing her wedding dress on a treadle sewing machine. She also had a talent for oil painting and scrapbooking. Her true passion was flowers and spent many hours planting, weeding, and planning flower gardens.
Elaine worked as a bank teller for several years at Pella National Bank and Mid Iowa Savings and Loan before retiring from Farm Bureau in 2003. Retirement, allowed Frank and Elaine to travel and attend polka festivals. They loved dancing together and traveling to where their favorite bands were performing.

Those left to honor her memory include her children, Linda (David) Beyer and Frank (Kathy) Vander Broek both of Monroe; four grandchildren, Daniel (Kacey) Beyer, Bryan (Alexis) Beyer, Jessica (Jim) Patterson and Cody Vander Broek; four great grandchildren, Isabella Beyer, Tabitha Beyer, Olivia Beyer and Hannah Patterson. Also surviving are her brother, Myron (Dorothy) Franzmeier of Storm Lake; sisters-in-law, Beverly Rose of Ogden, Phyllis Vander Broek of Boone and Grayce Vander Broek of Folsom, California along with many nieces and nephews.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Ewald and Anna and husband, Franklin in 2010.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 7, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at the Monroe Presbyterian Church with burial following at Silent City Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Thursday, October 6, 2016, from 3:00 - 7:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Monroe. The family will greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the Monroe Ambulance or Hospice of Central Iowa.
