Marjorie Miner Services Are Held In Newton
Final rites for Marjorie Forsyth Miner, 30, daughter of Mrs. Goldie Forsyth of this city, who died Wednesday, May 12, in an El Paso, Tex., hospital were conducted here last Tuesday from the Morgan Funeral home. Dr. Loren M. Edwards, minister of the First Methodist church of which Mrs. Miner was a member, officiated. Interment was in Woodland cemetery at Lynnville, Ia.
During the service, Lorna Johnson, soprano, sang “Whispering Hope” and “Abide With Me,” accompanied by Lois Hundling. Mrs. Ivy Wilson, Mrs. Floyd Wheeler, Mrs. John Blatterbauer, Mrs. Will Hubbard and Mrs. Robert McBroom were members of the flower committee.
Those serving as pallbearers were W. D. Wilding, W. B. Clements, Charles Bassett, Henry Wagner, Ivy Wilson and Paul Gray.
Born Near Lynnville
Daughter of the late Harry E. and Mrs. Forsyth, Marjorie Forsyth was born on a farm near Lynnville, Ia., April 10, 1913. After living a short while in Mitchellville, Ia., the family came to Newton in 1920 where they have continued to make their home.
Upon graduating from Newton High school in 1929 she accepted a stenographical position with the One-Minute Washer company and later was employed in a similar capacity for five years with the American Type Founder’s company in Des Moines.
She was united in marriage Dec. 25, 1938 to Harry A. Miner of Des Moines from whom she was recently divorced.
Employed in El Paso
The couple resided in Des Moines and Benton Harbor, Mich., until 1941 when they moved to El Paso, Tex., where she was employed as a freight rate clerk by the Southern Pacific Railway company.
In addition to her mother, immediate surviving relatives include two sisters, Mrs. Keith Williamson and Mrs. Frances Calvin, and two brothers, Harold A. and W. W. Forsyth, all of Newton.
Among those attending the rites from out of the county were Mr. and Mrs. F. G. Sherman and Mrs. L. B. Jones of Oskaloosa, Ia., Mrs. Mary E. Newell of Denver, Colo., and Rudolph Turnquist, William McDonald and Lawrence Mowyer, business associates of the Des Moines company by whom Mrs. Miner was formerly employed.
