William "Bill" Akins, 57, of Baxter, passed away on Monday, August 22, 2016 in Baxter. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date. A private burial in Restland Cemetery, in Baxter, will be held at a later date.

Bill was born in Des Moines, Iowa on October 8, 1958. He attended Baxter High School and graduated in 1977. Following high school he went to DMACC where he earned his Associates Degree, graduating in 1979. He worked for Majestic Truck in Altoona and eventually became the Parts Manager. Bill married Sharon Kiser, after 8 years of dating, at their house on October 8, 1986. He was a member of the Congregational United Church of Christ in Baxter. Bill was well known for being social, talking, telling jokes, his great memory especially with numbers, drinking Budweiser, and smoking Camels. He loved his wife and family, animals especially dogs, cats, and horses, NASCAR, tractors, the Green Bay Packers, Chevy Deuces, and Harley-Davidson's.

Those left to remember his memories are his wife Sharon Akins; children Jody (Mike) Johnson, Jena McWhirter, and Jan Roseland; mother Jean Akins; 8 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; sisters Jackie Akins, and Sam (Tony) Walstrom; sister-in-law Shirley Wignall; brother Larry (Norma) Kiser; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, and great-grandson Dustin.
