Death Report Proves False
Monroe, March 15 – Special – Mrs. Charles B. Wright of Long Beach, Calif., who with her husband, was among the first reported dead following the California earthquake, is unharmed according to word received by her brothers, Charles and John Custer of Monroe. Her husband died of shock from the disaster and the body will be brought to Monroe later for burial. The Wrights are former residents of Monroe.

Former Monroe People Killed in Coast Quake
Monroe, March 13 – Special – Mr. and Mrs. Charles B. Wright, former resident s of Monroe, were among the victims of the earthquakes, which shook the Pacific coast in the vicinity of Los Angeles and Long each Saturday morning.
The Wrights formerly operated a farm just north of Monroe and Mr. Wright also was connected for a time with the Custer Brothers mercantile firm. Mrs. Wright formerly was Mary Custer.

Words of assurance from relatives of Newton people continued to come by wire and mail today, as those living in the region affected by the quakes sought to allay fears of loved ones.
Mr. and Mrs. Cecil H. Witmer of Huntington Park were unharmed by the tremors, according to a wire received here by Mr. Witmer’s mother, Mrs. O. H. Witmer; Huntington Park is close to Long Beach.
Mrs. O. E. Efnor also has received word that her son-in-law and grandson, Loren Foreman and Byron Foreman, escaped uninjured. The family of a brother of Charles Bachman of Newton, living in Long Beach, also was unscathed, Mr. Bachman learned.

Funeral Services For C. B. Wright Saturday
Funeral services for C. B. Wright were held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 o’clock from the Methodist Episcopal church with the Rev. O. S. Hesseltine in charge. Pallbearers were C. A. Long, Geo. Kipp, John Murray, Arthur Palmer, Harry Worth and Clyde Fouch. Music was furnished by Miss Winona Tharp, Mrs. O. M. Wilson and Mrs. Ralph Gloyd.
Mr. Wright died Friday, March 10th, following a heart attack brought about by the earthquake.
Obituary
Charles Burton Wright, son of Joseph and Victorine Wright was born in Ohio, July 13, 1864 and died on March 10, 1933 at Long Beach, California, at the age of 68 years, 7 months and 27 days. His death was caused by heart failure, caused from shock received during the earthquake.
He was united in marriage Feb. 14, 1899 to Mary L. Custer of Monroe. For a number of years he, together with his two brothers-in-law, Chas. and John Custer, was in business in Monroe, where his integrity made him a host of friends.
He moved to Long Beach, Calif., in 1914 and made his home there until the time of his death. He was a member of the I.O.O.F., the Modern Woodman and the Masonic lodge.
Since early youth he was an active member of the Methodist Episcopal church. In his death he leaves to mourn his going, his wife, who is still in Long Beach, Calif., one brother, Clyde Wright of Newton; three sisters, Mrs. Cora Balmer of Indianola, Mrs. Ella Gifford of Des Moines and Miss Ada Wright of Monroe, who had been making her home with him in Long Beach for the past few months and who accompanied the body to Monroe for burial. One brother, Art Wright, preceded him in death.
