Margaret Marshall, daughter of Robert and Mary Forsythe Marshall, was born near Glasgow, Scotland, April 25, 1860, and died at Newton, Iowa, on Feb. 24, 1936. She came with her parents to America in June 1866. At that time there were three children in the family and in their company also came the mother of Mr. Marshall and his three younger brothers. They made their home east of Monroe in the Tools Chapel neighborhood. It was in this vicinity that Margaret Marshall grew to womanhood, and where she spent a busy life until she was married to Oliver Woody, November 4, 1925. Mr. Woody departed this life in 1929.
Her father and mother, and also her sister, Mrs. Betsy De Moss, preceded her in death. Two brothers and two sisters survive her. They are George F. and William Marshall of Monroe, Mrs. Cyrus Nolin of Monroe, and Mrs. Arthur Smith of Newton.
Mrs. Woody joined the Methodist church at Tools Chapel at the age of 15 years and daily sought to exemplify her Christian faith by doing unto others, as she would have had them do unto her.
Funeral services were in Monroe at the Methodist Episcopal church Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 26. She was laid to rest in the Monroe cemetery.
