Services Held
Services for Mazie Aletha Wagner were held Wednesday, August 26, 1992 at the United Methodist Church in Monroe.
Officiating services was the Rev. Karen Merrill, pastor of the church. Interment was in the Silent City Cemetery in Monroe.
Mazie Wagner, age 86, passed away at the Pella Community Hospital on Sunday, August 23, 1992. She was born on a farm south of Prairie City on March 17, 1906, the daughter of William and Henrietta Berkenbosch Elrod. A 1924 graduate of the Prairie City High School, she was employed for a time at the De Witt Store in Prairie City. On February 21, 1933, she was united in marriage to Ernest Wagner at Lancaster, Missouri. They farmed in the area for many years.
Surviving is her daughter and son-in-law, Dorothy and Wilmer Van Wyk, Monroe, five grandchildren: Donna and husband Bob Carhill, Jefferson, Jerry and wife Brenda Van Wyk, Monroe, Brenda and husband Wayne Burns, of Monroe, Lori Van Wyk, Dubuque, and Brian and wife Kelly Van Wyk of Monroe. Also surviving are 9 great grandchildren, a sister, Mabel Jarnagin, Madison, Wisconsin, and a brother, W. C. Elrod, Prairie City.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husband in 1982, a brother, Carl Elrod and a son, Harold in 1954. Mrs. Wagner was a member of the Monroe United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, the TMTM Club and the Monroe Women’s Club.
