Funeral Rites for Mrs. Mary Sharp
Mary C. Sulgrove, daughter of Edward and Margaret Sulgrove, was born September 24, 1846, at Farmington, Iowa and passed away at Monroe, Iowa September 16, 1938, aged 91 years, 11 months and 22 days.
She is the last of a family of seven children. Two sisters, Mrs. Jane S. Bateman and Miss Anna Sulgrove passed away March 6, 1919 and December 8th, 1925, respectively.
She was married March 6, 1864 at Farmington, Iowa to James Sharp. To this union four children were born, two of which preceded them in death. Two daughters Mrs. Margaret Neff and Mrs. Jennie Ramage survive.
They came to Jasper county, Ia., in 1879 and lived on the farm east of Fairmount. She was active in the Methodist Aid society. In November 1905 they moved to Monroe. Mrs. Sharp, although advanced in years was alert and her intellect was keen. Her eyesight had failed in the last few years. She was a person never to complain and was of cheerful disposition. She leaves many relatives and friends who will miss her. Her life was a long one here on earth and now she is at rest. She is gone but not forgotten.
Funeral services were at the Porter Funeral Home Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock in charge of Rev. J. M. Carlson, pastor Baptist church. Burial was in the Monroe Cemetery.
Singers were Gardena and Almeda Green, Dorothy Van Ryswick and Lorraine Ford.
Songs sung: “Rock of Ages”, “Going Down the Valley”, and "Jesus Lover of My Soul".
Pallbearers: J. C. Huigen, John Dibel, Chas. Comey, Mel Rinehart, Harold North and Wm. Mullim.
