Florence I. Rippey, 92, of 500 1st St, N,, formerly of rural Ira, died of heart failure Thursday, April 19, at Park Centre Health Care Centre in Newton.
Funeral services were today at the Wallace Family Funeral Home in Newton with the Rev. Tony Thurston of the College Avenue Christian Church in Des Moines officiating. Burial was at Union Chapel Cemetery in rural Mingo. Memorials will be accepted to Union Chapel Cemetery Fund.
The daughter of Arge and Ada Guthrie Vieth, she was born Sept. 24, 1908, in Newton. She was a graduate of Newton Senior High School and of Drake University in Des Moines. She married William Gale Rippey on April 30, 1932, in Lincoln, Neb.
Mrs. Rippey was a 4th grade school teacher in the Mingo School District and a homemaker. A longtime resident of rural Ira, she moved to Newton in 1998. She was a member of Ira United Church and the Ira Garden Club.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Russell and Evelyn Rippey of Ira; two daughters and sons-in-law, Zella Jane and Dr. E. James Rogers of Lodi, Calif. and Margaret and Dennis Page of Urbandale; six grandchildren; and six great-grandch8ildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
