Rinehart, Clara Metz – 1849-1923

Clara Metz, daughter of Jacob and Ann Metz, was born in Catawissa, Schuylkill Co., Penn., March 9, 1849 and died May 26, 1923, aged 74 years, 2 months and 17 days. She was one of a family of twelve children, one sister and two brothers remain, namely Mrs. W. H. Hetherington, Monroe, Ia., Pierce of Alliance, Nebr., and Arthur of Knoxville, Iowa.
She was married at Marysville, Iowa, Dec. 10, 1868 to Charles Rinehart, who with five daughters, one son and five grandchildren survive to mourn her going. Mrs. Harry B. Hunt, of Niantic, Conn.; Mrs. R. B. Hendershot, Monroe, Ia., Mrs. J. N. Dunlap, Mt. Vernon, N.Y., Mrs. J. R. Buckley, Prairie City, Ia.; Mrs. W. B. Wiggins, Chicago, Ill., and Ed. Of Denver, Colo. All were present but Mrs. Hunt.
She came with her parents to Marysville, Ia., when seven years of age. She united with the Lutheran church when a girl, later transferring her membership to the Methodist Episcopal church, remaining a faithful and devoted member to the last. While living in Monroe she was, for years, a teacher in the Sunday School, a member of the choir and an active worker in all the departments of the church, a member of the W.F.M.S., Ladies Aid, W.R.C. and W.C.T.U., president of the later for some years.
In 1912 Mr. and Mrs. Rinehart went to Niantic, Conn., to make their home with their daughter, Mrs. Hunt.
Mrs. Rinehart enjoyed a large acquaintanceship, owing to her social, genial disposition.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon in the Methodist church, conducted by Rev. E. E. IlgenFritz. A quartette composed of Mrs. M. I. Shaw, Mrs. Taylor, Sam Miles and Wm. Van Buren, Ruth Cash pianist, sang
“Crossing the Bar”, “The City Four Square” and “Lead Kindly Light.” Burial was in the Monroe cemetery.
