Services Held
Services for Wilbur Rempe were held Thursday, July 27, 2000, at the Heartland Reformed Church in Pella. Rev. James Lemmenes officiated the services. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery near Leighton, Iowa.
Wilbur passed away Sunday, July 23, 2000, of leukemia while being cared for at the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella.
Wilbur John Rempe was the first son born to Abraham (Abe) and Christena Van Engelenhoven Rempe on September 30, 1921, near Leighton, Iowa. He attended the Centennial Country Grade School near Leighton and lived with his parents near there since he was seven years old. On October 26, 1944, he was united in marriage with Velma Marie DePrenger at the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Leighton. Wilbur and Velma were blessed with two children: Stanley Jay and Connie Lou. They continued to live on the family’s farm all their married life. Farming was Wilbur’s career, a way of life, and his hobby. He took great pride when he and his son, Stan and Stan’s son, Joe were in the same field at the same time.
Wilbur was a former member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Leighton where he had served as a Deacon. He later transferred his membership to the Heartland Reformed Church in Pella.
Survivors are his wife, Velma; his son, Stan J. Rempe and his wife, the former Karen Sue Gosselink and their two sons; Joseph and Benjamin Rempe of Otley; his daughter Connie Lou and her husband D. LeRoy Blommers of Pella; her daughter, Ami and her husband, Chad Swank and their two children: Morgan and Johnathan of Reasnor; LeRoy’s three children: Jody and Phil Gott and their two children: Brian and Stephanie of Oskaloosa; Jason and Carrie Blommers and their daughter, Kelcey of Leighton; Joe and Heather Blommers and their son, Zach of Kirkville, Iowa. Wilbur also leaves his younger brother, Allen G. Rempe and his wife, Florence of Leighton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson.
