Services held for retiree Arie Olsthoorn
Arie Olsthoorn of Monroe, a Maytag retiree, died Tuesday of a stroke at the Pella Community Nursing Home. He was 79. Funeral services were held today in Monroe and burial was in Newton Memorial Park Cemetery.
Starting with the company in February 1953 in Headquarters maintenance, Olsthoorn transferred to paint in 1959. He worked for short periods of time in product distribution and receiving before returning to paint in March 1964.
Olsthoorn transferred to quality control in January 1968 and had remained in that department until his retirement in December 1969.
In addition to his wife, Janice, survivors include three sons: Gerald, Haysville, Kan.; Harvey, Kellogg, and Marion, Pella; four daughters: Ardella Burr, Newton; Dorothy Copelin, Trenton, Mo.; Ruth Graham, wife of Ron, product distribution, and Harriet Van Wyk, Pella; two stepsons: James and William Livingston, Mitchellville and Buckingham, respectively; a stepdaughter, Janine Hasselman, wife of Raymond, paint; three sisters, and a brother.

Services Held
Arie Olsthoorn of Pella, formerly of Monroe, passed away June 2, 1987, at the Pella Community Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 4, 1987 at the First Baptist Church in Monroe. Rev. John Adams officiated with interment in the Newton Memorial Park in Newton.
Arie Olsthoorn, son of John and Gerjie Moes Olsthoorn, was born July 25, 1907, near Peoria, Iowa. On August 27, 1928, he was united in marriage to Hattie Bruxvoort. To this union three sons and four daughters were born. On January 22, 1959, Hattie preceded him in death. On March 29, 1965, he was united in marriage to Janice Worth Livingston in Newton.
He is survived by his wife, Janice; seven children and their spouses: Marion and Sara Olsthoorn of Pella, Dorothy (Mrs. Alvin) Copelin of Trenton, Mo., Gerald and Virginia Olsthoorn of Haysville, Kansas; Harriet (Mrs. Walter) Van Wyk of Pella, Ardella and John Burr of Newton, Ruth and Ronald Graham of Kellogg, Harvey and Sandra Olsthoorn of Kellogg; three stepchildren and their spouses: William and Marcia Livingston of Buckingham, James and Joyce Livingston of Mitchellville, Janine and Ray Hasselman of Monroe; three sisters: Cora (Mrs. Tunis) Hartgers of sully, Johanna (Mrs. Bernie) Vos of Sully, Gertrude (Mrs. John) Swank of Newton; a brother, Lambert Olsthoorn of Sully; 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren, 7 step grandchildren and 5 step great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; a sister, Anna Olsthoorn; a brother, Henry Olsthoorn, two sons-in-law and two grandsons in infancy.
