Icephena Woody was born March 10th, 1858, and passed away at the Mark Woody home January 10th, 1940, being 81 years, 10 months old. Her birthplace was in Marion County, Ia., one and one-half miles southeast of Monroe, in a log cabin. She was the eldest child of Wm. H. and Jemima E. Woody. She was converted at the age of 16 years and joined the Harmony Baptist Church, which was located about three and one-half miles east of Monroe on the county line. Later the church was discontinued, after many of the member moved away.
Her membership was transferred to Monroe Baptist Church in 1921.
She was married July 17, 1894 to John Misner of Maysville, Mo., where they lived a number of years, later moving to Iowa. Mrs. Misner’s husband passed away, April 6, 1920, then she made her home with her brother, John M. Woody, who preceded her in death by seven months. After his death she remained with her nephew and family, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Woody.
Although Mrs. Misner, (or Aunt Phena as everyone knew her) had no children of her own, she bestowed the love of a mother on her nephews and nieces, and the memory of her devotion and loving kindness will linger with all.
She leaves one sister Mrs. J. A. Misner of Ridgeway, Mo., besides the nephews, nieces, other relatives and many friends.
In her declining years, she jotted down the dates of her birth and marriage, having all in readiness for her obituary.
Pallbearers were Henry Birkenholtz, Ivan Ross, Wilbur Ross, Otis Ross, Loyd Ross and Wayne Steward.
Music was, as requested by Mrs. Misner “The Old Rugged Cross”, “What a Friend”, and “Rock of Ages” sung by Mr. and Mrs. Neil McKee and Mr. and Mrs. Chris Vander Pol accompanied by Mrs. Bert Vaughn.
