Monroe – U. S. McDaniel, 74, retired Monroe farmer, died at his home west of Monroe, Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 o’clock. He had been in failing health for around a year with a heart ailment and had been in the Skiff Memorial hospital in Newton and the State University hospital in Iowa City.
He was born Dec. 5, 1871, and has lived most of his life in and near Monroe. On Feb. 21, 1891, he married Sarah Kingery, of Monroe, who survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Harry Carter and Mrs. Lafe McComas, of Des Moines, Mrs. Carm McCuen of Prairie City, Mrs. Wilbur Robson of Newton, and Mrs. Cleo Wright and Mrs. Loren Thomason of Monroe; seven sons, Ralph, of the Navy, Harley, overseas in England, liberated prisoner of the Germans, Floyd and Sam, of California, Riley and Howard of Monroe, and Claude, of Newton; a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00 o’clock, at the home, followed by services at the Methodist church at 2:30 o’clock, with the Rev. George Pennington in charge. Burial will be in the Dunreath cemetery.
