Harold R. Hawkins

Harold Hawkins of Newton passed from this life on Saturday afternoon, July 23, 2016, at Skiff Medical Center in Newton.

Harold Richard Hawkins, 64, the son of Burl E. and Margaret Mary (Dickinson) Hawkins, was born June 27, 1952, in Newton. He was a graduate of the Newton Senior High, attended the University of Iowa, and attended a bible college and also a Trade School. Harold served his country with the US Navy, during the Vietnam War.

Harold was employed by the Parsons Company, was a truck driver, and also worked in maintenance for FBG Services. Harold was a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, he will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He enjoyed genealogy, history and playing his guitar. He was a member of the Newton VFW Post #1655 and an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Harold is survived by his daughters: Dani Rogers and Sharon J. Hawkins, both of Newton; his sons: Richard D. (Amanda) Hawkins of Rock Island, IL and Michael R. (Heather) Hawkins of Newton; his fiancé Janice D. Williams of Newton; his ten grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; his sister Darlene Garwick of Des Moines; and his many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers and sisters: Robert, Dale, Joseph Hawkins, Donnie and Ronnie Hawkins (twins), Harriet Hawkins, Sharon Smith, Donna Dickerson, Colleen Redington, Johnny Hawkins, Dean Hawkins and Michael Hawkins.

A time of remembrance and the funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, July 30, 2016, at Pence ~ Reese Funeral Home in Newton. Visitation will be at the funeral home 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Friday, July 29.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be left in Harold’s name with his family or a charity of your choosing. ~ The Pence Reese Funeral Home, Newton, Iowa 23 July 2016.
